MEMBERSHIP AND SCHOLARSHIP AT MATR

This studio started with a promise to make music lessons accessible to all, no matter the circumstances. Our goal is to bring happiness and achievement to the lives of children, through music. We offer lessons to violin, viola, cello, piano, and bass students, and all of these benefits are available to every single one of you!

AN OVERVIEW

To be a member of the studio, you must take at least 1 lesson a month.

This means that membership at the studio starts at $38- which works out to a little over $1 a day!

If you are looking for a financially feasible option for lessons, look no further. We have no application process for those in financial need, you can fully tailor your experience at MATR to your own needs. Your child's education is all that matters.

GROUP CLASSES

Every other week, we offer a group class for all students at the studio to join.

Every other Saturday at 1 PM, we have a group class at the studio, where we will work on technique as a class. Not only does your child get the chance to learn from the teacher, but also from their peers- and it's a great chance to make friends! As one of the unique aspects of the Suzuki method, our group classes alone let us stand out from the crowd.

Value: $61 per class

Cost to you: FREE!

DROP IN OBSERVATIONS AND PRACTICE

During office hours, you can come and observe others' lessons, or practice with the teacher present.

Our office is open on weekdays, 3 PM to 8 PM. You can drop on in during these hours, for two different reasons:

If another student's lesson is occurring (the schedule is posted on the front page of our site, or you can call to ask about the schedule for the day), you can watch their lesson, and your child can take this opportunity to learn from their peers.

If there isn't a lesson going on, you can practice with the teacher who is present for up to an hour. You can use this time to work on something particularly tricky, or just to get a better sense of how to be more efficient in your practice!

Value: Up to $1,220 a month

Cost to you: FREE!

AFFORDABLE INSTRUMENT RENTALS

Do you need a rental instrument? No problem- we've got you covered!

If you're in need of a rental stringed instrument, all you have to do is put down a refundable deposit for damages, and you get the free use of one of the studio's instruments! And don't worry- we'll take care of all of the maintenance of the instrument, specifically, bow rehairs, and string changes.

Value: Up to $250 a month

Cost to you: FREE!

RECITALS AND OTHER PERFORMANCES

Every student needs an opportunity to perform, so we offer as many as we can!

We hold a studio wide recital at the beginning of summer, and just before winter break, every year. Every student is encouraged to participate, to have the chance to play with an accompanist in front of an audience of their friends and family- with a potluck reception afterwards!

We also hold regular solo recitals for our students, to celebrate when they have reached a milestone in their studies. This is a unique chance for your child to be able to perform by themselves in front of a real live audience, an experience most students don't get until college!

We regularly encourage our students to perform in church services, nursing homes, and other public venues, but also coach them in performance for the district and other orchestras, regionals/all state and other competitions, and anywhere else we can find a stage- heck, we'll even go busking downtown sometimes!

Value: Priceless experience

Cost to you: A tray of cookies for the potluck, and that's it!

AUDITION PREP AND COACHING

We take auditions seriously, and prepare our students as well as possible.

A note from Savannah, our violin teacher: Every student I have had who has auditioned for the Charleston County School of the Arts, as well as SCMEA Regionals and All State competitions, has excelled with flying colors!

Auditions can be super stressful on top of the workload of everything else your child is studying in their lessons. We like to lessen the load, by taking some of it in our hands. If a student needs more hands on work with the teacher to prepare for an upcoming audition, we will happily offer the student extra lessons at no extra cost for up to 8 weeks leading up to the audition, at the discretion of the teacher.

And in the age of the internet, sometimes, auditions are virtual, requiring a recording. We will set aside a block of time to work with you and your child on crafting the best possible recording that we can, ensuring that with patience and practice, your child will be able to do anything they wish!

Value: Up to $840

SCHOLARSHIPS TO OUR SUMMER COURSES

Every summer, we offer music camps which are available to the public- but our students get special pricing!

Our summer camp offerings change from year to year, but one thing that doesn't change is the benefit of being a student at the studio. You can get up to 50% off the cost of a summer recital, merely by being a member of MATR!

If you are in financial need, and cannot afford the pricing of the summer camps, not to worry- there is no application process for financial scholarships. All you have to do is ask, and we will assess your child's studies, and you can receive up to a FULL 100% SCHOLARSHIP based on merit!

Value: Up to $1,000

Cost to you: FREE!

SCHOLARSHIP PREP AND COACHING FOR COLLEGE

It's hard to get into college, and even harder to afford the cost- but we can help with that.

If your child is in their final years of high school and looking at colleges, then we can help prepare them for their collegiate career. Many, many schools have great music programs that offer terrific scholarships merely for taking lessons, or participating in their orchestra! All you have to do is audition.

Just like with other auditions, we'll take extra time to prepare your child for their college auditions. However, for these, we will give them up to a full semester of additional lessons at no extra cost. Additionally, we will find masterclasses for your child to attend to prepare their audition material, with professors who can give them an idea of what to expect in college.

We will also help you find third party scholarships in music, to help pay for your child's college education.

Value: Up to $150,000 for a 4-year university, or even more!

Cost to you: FREE!
